object design

Our object designs combine minimalism, function, and careful material use. For Social-Unit, the bed for homeless shelters, and the loft bed, we collaborated with sheltered workshops and used recycled post-consumer plastic. We designed the beds to provide storage, homeliness, and easy cleaning, while making them pieces of furniture that are beautiful.

For the MIN-memento memorial objects, we work with sheltered workshops such as De Hoop and homeless organisations in Taiwan. The objects are hand-cast in stone with recycled components, designed to be minimalist and symbolic, representing remembrance in a subtle and personal way. They are produced in small editions, with subtle variations due to the handcrafting process, and come wrapped in semi-transparent tracing paper, optionally with a personalized card.

These collaborations and material choices allow us to produce handcrafted objects that are sustainable and socially responsible, while reflecting our minimalist aesthetic.

loft bed

The Loft Bed is a ’luxury island’, perfectly suited to be placed in large, open plan living spaces. It is made out of recycled plastics and produced in sheltered workshops.

It has a workstation/vanity table on the outside and lighting and storage functions on the inside. It gives a feeling of seclusion, comfort and homeliness when you are lying inside. It is a minimalist translation of the Asian platform bed.

single bed

Social-Unit #1 is a space saving cupboard-bed made from recycled plastics and produced in sheltered workshops. Originally designed for homeless shelters it is also ideal for dorm rooms, hostels and children’s and guest rooms.

It combines storage with a sleep compartment on 3m2.  It is very strong and easy to clean and lying inside gives a feeling of security and peace.

min-memento

The MIN-memento collection consists of four shapes: a cross, a heart, a star, and a disc. They are hand-cast in cast stone at the social workshop of De Hoop.

With the shapes of MIN-memento, you can commemorate a deceased loved one. The design consists of two parts: a small removable shape and a holder into which it fits. When the small shape is removed, a recess remains. This recess symbolizes the emptiness that a loved one can leave behind.
